5th Oct...Scenic Drive, Groveton, Stark,NH...

Although below freezing overnight we are so lucky to be in the White Mountains on this beautiful day, our hearts go out to the people of South Carolina who have lost their homes and their lives in the awful flooding over the past couple of days....
Older buildings in Lancaster, one of the small towns on our route north today....a local on seeing us taking a photo of the building though we were from a newspaper and was quite disappointed when we said we just tourists but we had a good chat about the town and local area...
One of two covered bridges in Lancaster...The Mechanic Street Bridge built in 1852 over the Israels River...
This and next photo is the Groveton covered bridge over the Ammonoosuc River and again built in 1852.....

Good reflections in the lake but sadly in the background they are demolishing the remains of one of the old paper mills in this area...

Our last covered bridge for today is in the village of Stark...we met and had a good chat with a lovely couple from Ohio, one of the joys of travelling is meeting people...
Our lunchtime spot at South Pond State Park....very peaceful, we were the only ones there !! Again great reflections in the water, this and next 2 photos...

Self explanatory....they are huge !!!
One last pic for today of the fabulous fall colours and scenery.....
It's going to be below freezing again tonight, all being well more soon from the Snuggly Campers...

  1. Hi Sue & Michael,
Like the look of the cog railway, and the trails you took.
I think I may start a petition to get our bridges covered (then again probably wouldn`t have the same appeal in Birmingham).
Love the pictures showing the reflections in the lake, what a spot for your lunch break.
Wrap up warm against the night time tempreatures ,and keep clear of moose.
Gin and tonic time for me,take care.
