Wednesday 21st October....The Blue Ridge Parkway, Virginia....

Frosty overnight and a beautiful blue sky morning...I've included this pic only because it is a most unusual sight to see a field of sheep in the USA  and along with the rolling hills around our campsite it's all very "English"....
Today we drive 28 miles from our campsite at Fort Chiswell up onto the Blue Ridge Parkway and a revisit of a stretch of Parkway we first  drove in 2010 when we hired the motorhome...
This area of the Blue Ridge is dotted with farms and homesteads...it's not as dramatic as nearer to Asheville but it is very pretty...
We stopped off along  the Parkway for a revisit to the Blue Ridge Music Centre a museum and arts centre built for the preservation of bluegrass and mountain music....as well as holding scheduled outdoor concerts there is also live music everyday from noon to 4pm...

The 469 mile parkway crosses into North Carolina...
"I see no ships" !!.....our lunch sandwich picnic table....
The stunning view from our lunchtime picnic table....
Beautiful autumn colours...it was spring when we visited in 2010 with the azaleas and rhododendrons in full bloom...
And lastly for today :)
Tomorrow we move another 300 miles south to Lake Keowee South Carolina....
Until the next post...
The "Bluesy" Campers....

16th to 19th Oct....Flying South With The Snowbirds.....

16th October ....we had some overnight rain but dry as we set off on our 176 mile drive south west from Lake George to Harpursville and although it is mostly interstate driving it's still a very beautiful journey...very rural countryside and small communities and towns...
The fall colours are still amazing but the leaves are starting to fall so our song for now is Nat King Cole and Autumn Leaves....
This and next pic are taken from a rest area and for us a lunch break on the I-88....
Most of the parking area is taken up with the motor coaches of the French Canadian Snowbirds heading for Florida...
View from our home on wheels at Belden Hill Campground, Harpursville, New York.....
Beautiful evening rainbow.....it will be below freezing temps tonight....
Sunday 18th October and oh my a winter wonderland this morning......

Only a small amount of snow but these snowbirds will now be flying south !!!!!

We hear that it is the earliest ski season in New England for 20 years !!!

Todays 300 mile drive south is all on the I-81 and takes us back through Pennsylvania, 11 miles of Maryland and into West Virginia for our overnight stop at Falling Waters...
We did have a few snow flurries then sleet and rain showers on route....I couldn't quite capture it but there were some amazing cloud "formations"
The famous Mason-Dixon Line as we enter into Maryland, sadly no welcome to Maryland sign, I guess they feel it's not worth it for 11 miles, but as you can see we do have roadworks....
By the time we reach West Virginia it's mainly blue skies and a balmy 50F !! Break out the shorts again !!!
Monday 19th October and back on the road for another 300 mile drive south on the I-81 to Virginia and our home for the next 3 nights at Fort Chiswell RV Park...
Again, although all interstate driving today it's an easy and very pretty drive with
lots of rest areas and excellent road surfaces.....
We are here for a couple of days and plan to revisit a section of The Blue Ridge Parkway, a favourite drive from our Big Road Trip of 2010.....
For now it's time for a pre dinner glass of wine ..
The Happy Campers....

12th to 15th October....The Adirondacks, Upstate New York....

It's a beautiful very warm and sunny day for our journey from Vermont  via US 7 South to Lake George, New York State....it's a very scenic drive through rural countryside and small towns...
This must be one of the strangest lookingwater-towers I have photographed !!
This is such a pretty drive drive, we love Vermont, it's our favourite New England state.....
The colours on mass are so stunning almost an assault of the "sight sense"...
Time for a rest stop at a very pretty area....we love meeting people and chatting along the way, one of the openers is which part of Montana are you from (our tag/license plate is registered in Montana) then it gets more interesting when we say we are from England...
Welcome to New York.....our campsite and home for the next 4 days is at Lake George, NY....on arriving at the campsite we did have to do a quick repair and pop out to a local hardware store as a nut and bolt had fallen off the campers steps somewhere on route....
This is the parking lot for one of the many amusement parks here in Lake George, .....they are all closed now after the holiday weekend so I shall have to man up and not be disappointed that I won't be able to go on any of the rides :(
One of the sightseeing/dinner cruise boats....
Lake George and Fort William Henry is an historical area, the fort was constructed by the British to protect the colonies from the French !!!

The main reason for our stay here is to visit the Adirondack Mountains for more "leaf peeping"
Again the colours are stunning...
A phrase we recently saw outside of a school is very apt "autumn is the second spring as every leaf is a flower"

Sadly the more into the mountains we got and by lunchtime it is raining but  still colourful...

The Hudson River on it's way down to New York and The Atlantic Ocean....
The Gore Mountain ski area....the gondola rides are not open but great views from here and very peaceful....
Day 2 in the Adirondacks and it's starts to rain again early afternoon but even if the photos don't do it justice we have our memories....

And now for something completely different.....Eagled eyed Yorkieman spots this majestic chap soaring above us....
Time for a short walk to Buttermilk Falls....

Another shot of the Hudson River....

Our lunch sandwich spot......I have run out of superlatives for the fall colours, the vast forested areas make such fantastic viewing, we have to say add this to your bucket list....
Another observation of this general area, apart from the "pumpkin people" is the residents have fantastic displays of Chrysanthemums.....
Tomorrow we move on a bit farther south 170 miles to Harpursville, NY..... it is starting to get rather cold at night.....

All being well more soon from
The Chilly Campers....
