23rd Oct to 1st November....Lake Keowee and SC Waterfalls......

Well the best laid plans and all that !!! We had a couple of days of fabulous sunshine and 80F temps while setting up camp at Crooked Creak RV Park then Hurricane Patricia hit Texas and overspilled to the east coast resulting in 3 days of torrential rain....but we are now making the most of a beautiful clear blue sky morning and heading out for some exercise....the autumnal colours are still very vibrant in this area...
Whitewater Falls....this viewpoint is actually in North Carolina and 164 steps down to the viewing platform....this was after a mile hike...
Apart from the good exercise it's well worth the decent.....
Starting in NC this waterfall cascades down into South Carolina and are the highest falls in Eastern America....

A closer view of Whitewater Falls and rainbow.....
This and next 2 pics are of Lake Jocassee from a scenic viewpoint on SR 107...
Yorkieman discovered when talking to a local that the land surrounding Lake Jocassee was purchased by an entrepreneur to prevent housing development and was given as a land trust to the state.....
Table Rock State Park and a revisit from our 2010 Big Road Trip....that time it was raining, today perfect weather....
Back at Camp Harris a stunning sunset.....
31st October....morning mist rising from Lake Keowee....
Day 2 of waterfalls and hiking, we're making the most of the good weather as more rain is forecast........
Yellow Branch Falls....
This is a revisit to these falls first visited in 2010....a good 2 miles hike over streams, elevation gain, narrow rooted trails but a very pretty hike and falls...
After the exercise it's time for our lunch sandwich......
This and next pic taken from gazebo.....
Monday 2nd November.....Day 2 of torrential rain !!!!
Some of our songs from the past 2 days:
I Love The Rainy Nights....Eddie Rabbitt...
Listen To The Rhythm Of The Falling Rain...The Cascades
Raindrops Keep Falling On My Head...B J Thomas....
Well on a wet wet day what else is there to do !!
But we are not going to sign off from this trip's blog on a soggy note.....
Well folks it's time for Yorkieman and Mrs Blogger to once more put their home on wheels into storage and head back to Blighty....we hear there are a lot of changes in our area and even the opening of a pub in walking distance from Harris Towers :)
We have had another fabulous road trip, the fall colours were truly stunning... we are once more grateful for the opportunity to do what we are doing and meeting people
We are going to spend some quality time with our good friends in Georgia before all being well flying back across the pond on the 9th November....
Until the next time it's over and out from
The Very Wet but Very Happy Campers...

22nd October 2015.....Virginia, Tennessee, North Carolina & South Carolina.......

Early morning at Fort Chiswell RV Park, Virginia....
Hitched up and away by 09.45 for the next 300 miles of our flight south....
I know but it is a very pretty one !!!!
Back into Tennessee....
Although our journey today is mostly interstate it is once again a very pretty drive...
The excellent Tennessee Welcome Centre on I-81...
The view from the Welcome Centre with more great fall decorations and a perfect spot for our lunchtime sandwich...
Back into North Carolina.......
Thank goodness for the exhaust brake.....
Next comfort stop at the North Carolina Welcome Centre.....
Now on I-26 and into the beautiful Appalachian Mountains.....
The bank is covered in what we think is a type of pampas grass, it's certainly very prolific on this stretch of road but very pretty...
Driving was a bit stressy around Asheville but then on downhill towards Greenville  South Carolina and along through Clemson to our campsite at Lake Keowee and back to our starting point for this road trip....
It's 80F and we hope to have 2 weeks of R & R and exercise hiking to some of the great waterfalls in this area....
For now it's time for a post drive beer and wine.....

Wednesday 21st October....The Blue Ridge Parkway, Virginia....

Frosty overnight and a beautiful blue sky morning...I've included this pic only because it is a most unusual sight to see a field of sheep in the USA  and along with the rolling hills around our campsite it's all very "English"....
Today we drive 28 miles from our campsite at Fort Chiswell up onto the Blue Ridge Parkway and a revisit of a stretch of Parkway we first  drove in 2010 when we hired the motorhome...
This area of the Blue Ridge is dotted with farms and homesteads...it's not as dramatic as nearer to Asheville but it is very pretty...
We stopped off along  the Parkway for a revisit to the Blue Ridge Music Centre a museum and arts centre built for the preservation of bluegrass and mountain music....as well as holding scheduled outdoor concerts there is also live music everyday from noon to 4pm...

The 469 mile parkway crosses into North Carolina...
"I see no ships" !!.....our lunch sandwich picnic table....
The stunning view from our lunchtime picnic table....
Beautiful autumn colours...it was spring when we visited in 2010 with the azaleas and rhododendrons in full bloom...
And lastly for today :)
Tomorrow we move another 300 miles south to Lake Keowee South Carolina....
Until the next post...

16th to 19th Oct....Flying South With The Snowbirds.....

16th October ....we had some overnight rain but dry as we set off on our 176 mile drive south west from Lake George to Harpursville and although it is mostly interstate driving it's still a very beautiful journey...very rural countryside and small communities and towns...
The fall colours are still amazing but the leaves are starting to fall so our song for now is Nat King Cole and Autumn Leaves....
This and next pic are taken from a rest area and for us a lunch break on the I-88....
Most of the parking area is taken up with the motor coaches of the French Canadian Snowbirds heading for Florida...
View from our home on wheels at Belden Hill Campground, Harpursville, New York.....
Beautiful evening rainbow.....it will be below freezing temps tonight....
Sunday 18th October and oh my a winter wonderland this morning......

Only a small amount of snow but these snowbirds will now be flying south !!!!!

We hear that it is the earliest ski season in New England for 20 years !!!

Todays 300 mile drive south is all on the I-81 and takes us back through Pennsylvania, 11 miles of Maryland and into West Virginia for our overnight stop at Falling Waters...
We did have a few snow flurries then sleet and rain showers on route....I couldn't quite capture it but there were some amazing cloud "formations"
The famous Mason-Dixon Line as we enter into Maryland, sadly no welcome to Maryland sign, I guess they feel it's not worth it for 11 miles, but as you can see we do have roadworks....
By the time we reach West Virginia it's mainly blue skies and a balmy 50F !! Break out the shorts again !!!
Monday 19th October and back on the road for another 300 mile drive south on the I-81 to Virginia and our home for the next 3 nights at Fort Chiswell RV Park...
Again, although all interstate driving today it's an easy and very pretty drive with
lots of rest areas and excellent road surfaces.....
We are here for a couple of days and plan to revisit a section of The Blue Ridge Parkway, a favourite drive from our Big Road Trip of 2010.....
For now it's time for a pre dinner glass of wine ..
The Happy Campers....
