4th Oct....Sunday at Bretton Woods & Crawford Notch State Park, NH.....

Today with our first stop is at the Bretton Woods Ski Resort Centre who offer free skit lifts to the summit of Mount Russell...this is not my preferred mode of transport but if needs must !!! It is a thing of ski lifts how very quiet they are...
One of the views from the summit....The Mount Washington Hotel....built in 1902 by Abel Crawford for his wife....room prices start at $309 pn.....
We set off on an up and down hike through the woods on what was suppose to be a half mile hike, well about 2 miles later we completed the loop...oh well the exercise was good...
Next stop is the Mt Washington Cog Railway....the world's first mountain climbing cog railway.....from an elevation of 2,700ft it takes an hour to get to the summit of Mt Washington at 6,288ft...
Old Peppersass built in 1866 and the first mountain climbing engine in the world...fortunately it was not scrapped when retired but stored on the property and restored for exhibit...
Parts of the track up to the summit with one of the cars in view...
Time for another leg stretch but not until after a good samaritan moment..we arrived at the parking area of Ripley Falls trailhead to find a couple of lads had managed to "park" their car with the front in a rocky ditch....Yorkieman and another couple of chaps managed to lift it out with amazingly little damage to the car....
The beginning of the trail crosses the railroad line...
And then it gets a tiny bit steeper and like this most of the way and another hike that was suppose to be a half mile...maybe they work on a different measurement scale in these parts !!!!
But it was so worth the effort.....

Back home after another great day in The White Mountains....
