3rd Oct..Saturday...The Kancamagus Highway, New Hampshire...

The Kancamagus Highway one of the main autumnal drives in this area....very busy as it's Saturday and a beautiful day but plenty of scenic viewpoints and pullouts to accommodate all.....
Apparently the "colours" are a week behind due to the frosts....but it is still spectacular....

One of the many waterfalls in this area although during the summer they are mostly dry but with the recent rains they are running well....
This one is the Sabbaday Falls....a fast flowing fall through a narrow granite gorge with some 90 degree turns....
Sabbaday Falls was a good 2 mile hike roundtrip with some elevation gain so a good leg stretch....
Next stop is at the preserved Russell Colbath House....built in 1830 this was the home of Thomas Russell one of many "log barons" in this area.....we had an interesting and informative walk around the half mile trail to the river..... the trees were cut and taken by river or railroad to the lumber mills....

Next stop is the Rocky Gorge Area and an easy walk to the narrows...
This is such a beautiful area and a perfect time to be visiting....the light is fading as we drive home well satisfied......
All being well more soon from the
Leaf Peeping Campers....
