8th to 10th Sept....Mt Jackson to Gardners, Pennsylvania & Gettysburg National Military Park.....

Back onto the I-81 again today and 149 miles to our next campsite in Pennsylvania....
We are certainly entering apple country.....acres and acres of apple trees much like Kent.....
Woodstock....not THE Woodstock but a neat little town...
And into West Virginia for 30 miles....
Then into Maryland for another 10 miles....
And last State for today....Pennsylvania and of course today's song is Pennsylvania 6500....each state has a welcome centre and rest stop so lots of opportunity for comfort breaks...Very agricultural, one of the main crops is soya bean and also vast acres of corn being harvested for silage.....
We arrive at our campsite and home for the next 3 nights via a small pretty country road...very quiet apart from the dumpster emptying at 05.30am the next morning !!!!
We are staying just 20 miles from Gettysburg National Military Park and Cemetery...
Again a pretty drive through small towns and apple orchards and through the historic town of Gettysburg...
It's stonking hot and very humid but mainly a self-guided auto tour....
First stop the Visitors Centre, as ever lots of information from the very knowledgeable rangers...
We start with a very informative film, The Birth of Freedom" about The Battle of Gettysburg then the fascinating Cyclorama...this is a sound and light show featuring the spectacular 377 foot oil painting by French artist Paul Philippoteaux of Pickett's Charge, one of the deciding skirmishes....this was completed in 1884 and was one of 4 he and his team painted earning $50,000 per painting...
A memorial in the Soldiers Cemetery which is also where Abraham Lincoln delivered his Gettysburg Address...
One of the many memorials on the 24 mile auto tour...
Plaques/memorials and a field of soya bean....history and agriculture in harmony....
Soya bean field...in the background Eisenhower's Farmhouse...
The look out point for General Warren....

The memorial at Little Round Top...
The Pennsylvanian Memorial....
One of many interesting houses in Gettysburg Town....
It's been a good day informative and interesting, home with a stop at a farmers market.....
More soon, all being well, from the hot but Happy Campers....

We're so glad you had a great time and a good spot of R & R on Gozo, we have heard that it is a lovely island...
Have a great weekend, hoping the sun will shine, we had a very wet day yesterday and a drop in temperature of 30 degrees but had planned in an "at home" day...beautifully sunny and a clear blue sky this morning...:)
