14th to16th Sept....PA to Old Mystic,CT & Rhode Island.....

On the road again by 9.20 it's only a 285 miles journey but just as well we  got away when we did as it was a very long day...first hold up after just joining the 1-80 west for road works which rather set the pattern for the day...diabolical road surfaces and potholes !!! The saving grace was, it was mostly interstate lots of rest areas/comfort stops !! Not only was the trailer well shook up but also Yorkieman and Mrs Blogger !!
More road works as we enter New York State....
Crossing The Hudson River....yet more roadworks
And into Connecticut...
A little more drama, only a mile from our destination we had to back up the trailer in a small village to get on the right road !!! Thank you to the other road users for being patient....
Thank goodness on arrival at Seaport RV Resort, Old Mystic that the campsite is perfect...spacious sites, lovely pool, friendly staff etc etc...a few bevies and all is well with the world...
Tuesday 15th dawns a beautiful blue sky sunny morning and temps rise today to the mid 80's....after a few household chores we head down the 4/5 miles to Mystic Seaport....a very pretty "English" seaside town...
The draw bridge over the Mystic River...raised on average over 2000 times a year...

It's fascinating to us how the concrete blocks miss the building....
Next stop Stonington Point.... and hey a seaside scene and a water-tower !!!
The area and most of what we see in Rhode Island is very touristy but it's all very pretty and neat and clean and we love to be by the sea/ocean.....it has similarities to  Southwold or Frinton-On-Sea in England...
16th Sept....Westerly, RI on the border with Connecticut  is only about 10 miles from our park....again a very neat town....very upmarket as is most of what we see in Rhode Island
The Westerly Public Library.....

A street fire alarm...
Mentioned as the western boundary of Rhode Island in the charter of 1663....
On farther along the scenic route 1 is Watch Hill....another very pretty harbour seaside town...famous for it's Flying Horse Carousel and these days because Taylor Swift has a house here...
The Flying Horse Merry-Go Round was left behind by a travelling carnival in 1883 and is still in working order...unfortunately as we are now past Labor Day Weekend most of the horses are covered to protect them from the weather...
Point Judith Lighthouse undergoing restoration.....
Time for our lunch sandwich at one of the many beautiful beaches...
In the town of Narragansett we came across this building across the road, we have no idea what it is but it did have complimentary valet parking !!!
We have really enjoyed our stay here at Old Mystic and our venture into Rhode Island....while listening to Ken Bruce via the I-player after Pop Master he played Forever Autumn :)
Tomorrow we move to Salisbury Beach north of Boston...we will not have wifi capabilities and therefore there will be a break in communications and blog updates from the Beachcomber Campers...

  1. Hi Sue & Michael,
Have been away at a sales meeting, and just caught up with your adventures.Good to see that you were able to capture a picture of a library. Please to hear that you are keeping in touch via Ken Bruce and pop master. We are visiting Anns sister in Horsham this weekend(you always seem to be away when we are on your doorstep).
Forecast is quite good so we should get to see the sea,and no doubt enjoy a few glasses of the dark stuff.Take care.
